1. What is a generator actuator

The generator actuator is a component of the generator regulator, mainly composed of an electromagnet group, a spring group, and a regulating resistor. It is one of the key devices for controlling the output voltage of the generator.

2. Working principle of generator actuator

When the generator is working, it generates electric potential and outputs voltage through the principle of electromagnetic induction. The function of the generator actuator is to adjust the voltage output of the generator by controlling the attraction and disconnection of the electromagnet.

Specifically, when the output voltage of the generator is lower than the set value, the control circuit will energize the electromagnetic iron, which generates suction force and compresses the pressure regulating spring group, increasing the resistance of the pressure regulating potentiometer and thus increasing the output voltage of the generator.

On the contrary, when the output voltage of the generator is higher than the set value, the control circuit will cut off the power of the electromagnet, restore the spring group to its original state, and reduce the resistance of the voltage regulator potentiometer, thereby reducing the output voltage of the generator.

3. Classification of generator actuators

According to the structural form, generator actuators can be divided into two types: engine self-excited type and externally excited type. Among them, self-excited actuators are usually installed on the generator end cover, while externally excited actuators are installed inside the control cabinet.

In addition, it can be divided into two types based on the control mode: mechanical and electronic. Electronic actuators are generally used in conjunction with digital voltage regulators.
