The zero-clearance method for adjusting the fuel injectors of the Cummins NT855 engine involves the following steps:
Preparation: Ensure that the engine is cold and has been shut down. Utilize the feeler gauge provided in the Cummins specified toolset to perform the adjustment.
Valve Adjustment Procedure:
1. Rotate the engine to position A, confirming it corresponds to the 2nd cylinder valve. Adjust the valve clearance at this point.
2. Proceed to adjust the next cylinder (4th cylinder) using the zero-clearance method.
3. After rotating the engine through a full 360-degree cycle and marking position A, adjust both the 2nd cylinder valve and the 4th cylinder injector. If necessary, repeat the 360-degree rotation to ensure accurate injection.
4. At position B, adjust the 4th cylinder valve and the 1st cylinder injector; at position C, adjust the 1st cylinder valve and the 5th cylinder injector.
Injector Adjustment: The injectors of the Cummins NT855 engine are self-actuating and do not require manual adjustment.
Important Notes:
1. Valve clearance adjustments should be performed when the valves are fully closed, ensuring the rocker arm rests on the base circle of the camshaft. Valves undergoing intake or those that have just completed exhaust are unsuitable for adjustment.
2. When adjusting valve clearance, appropriately loosen the valve stem screw using a screwdriver before proceeding with precise adjustments as outlined above.
