Precautions for Oil Seals

1. Preparations and Precautions Before Startup
a. Conduct a thorough inspection of the mechanical seal, along with all associated auxiliary devices and pipelines, to ensure they are fully installed and meet technical specifications.
b. Perform a static pressure test on the mechanical seal prior to startup to check for any leakage. If significant leakage is detected, identify the cause and take corrective actions. If the issue persists, disassemble and reassemble the seal as necessary. The typical static pressure test pressure should be 2 to 3 kilograms per square centimeter.
c. Manually rotate the pump in its operational direction to verify smooth and uniform operation. If resistance or immobility is encountered, inspect the assembly dimensions and installation for correctness.

2. Installation and Shutdown Procedures
a. Ensure that the sealing chamber is filled with liquid before startup. For pumps handling solidifying media, use steam to heat the sealing chamber to melt the medium. Prior to startup, manually rotate the pump to prevent sudden startup from causing damage to the soft ring.
b. For mechanical seals utilizing an external sealing oil system, start the sealing oil system first. After shutdown, ensure the sealing oil system is the last component to be turned off.
c. After a hot oil pump stops, do not immediately stop the cooling water for the sealing chamber and end face seal. Wait until the oil temperature at the end face seal drops below 80 degrees Celsius before stopping the cooling water to prevent damage to the sealing components.

3. Operational Considerations
a. If minor leakage occurs after the pump starts, observe it for a period. If the leakage does not decrease after continuous operation for 4 hours, stop the pump for inspection.
b. Maintain stable operating pressure, ensuring pressure fluctuations do not exceed 1 kilogram per square centimeter.
c. During operation, avoid cavitation in the pump to prevent dry friction at the sealing surface and potential seal damage.
d. Regularly monitor the sealing condition. During operation, if the leakage exceeds standard limits (no more than 5 drops per minute for heavy oils and no more than 10 drops per minute for light oils), and if there is no improvement within 2 to 3 days, stop the pump and inspect the sealing device.
