Introduction
The starting motor is characterized by its broad applicability, simple structure, ease of operation and maintenance, and cost-effectiveness. It is extensively utilized in marine medium-speed diesel engines. This type of starter is a turbine-driven motor that employs an internal piston to engage with the pinion gear, thereby initiating the rotation of the diesel engine. The starting system also comprises components such as a pressure regulator valve and a starting solenoid valve. Upon activation of the solenoid valve, externally supplied high-pressure air (3MPa) passes through the integrated pressure regulator, reducing the pressure to approximately 1MPa. This regulated air then flows into the transmission housing via a bypass line, causing the pinion gear to extend gradually and mesh with the flywheel ring gear. Once fully engaged, the main circuit's high-pressure air enters the starting motor, driving the internal piston which, in turn, actuates the turbine impeller to rotate the pinion gear. The pinion gear subsequently drives the flywheel ring gear, leading to the rotation of the flywheel, crankshaft, and pistons, ultimately resulting in the successful ignition of the diesel engine.

Working Principle
The operational principle of the starter can be elucidated through the functioning of its primary component, the DC motor. A DC motor converts electrical energy into mechanical energy based on the principle that a current-carrying conductor experiences an electromagnetic force within a magnetic field. To ensure adequate torque and stable rotational speed, the armature of the motor is wound with multiple coils, and the number of commutator segments increases proportionally. This design ensures sufficient torque generation and consistent performance.
