1. Working principle of mixed flow pump
Due to the shape of the impeller of the mixed flow pump being between the impeller of the centrifugal pump and the impeller of the axial flow pump, the working principle of the mixed flow pump includes both centrifugal force and lift force. With the combined effect of the two, water flows out of the impeller at a certain angle with the shaft, and is lifted higher through the volute chamber and pipeline.
2. General characteristics of mixed flow pumps
(1) Compared with centrifugal pumps, mixed flow pumps have lower head and higher flow rate, while compared with axial flow pumps, they have higher head and lower flow rate. Suitable for drainage and irrigation in plain and lake areas.
(2) Water is sucked in and out of a mixed flow pump at a certain angle to the impeller shaft along its flow direction, hence it is also known as a diagonal flow pump.

The centrifugal pump model, variety specifications, and their variant products are the most common among agricultural pumps. According to the way water flows into the impeller, the number of impellers, whether the pump body can self suction, and the size and variety of supporting power, centrifugal pumps include single-stage single suction centrifugal pumps, single-stage double suction centrifugal pumps, multi-stage centrifugal pumps, self suction centrifugal pumps, electric motor pumps, and diesel engine pumps.
1. Single stage single suction centrifugal pump
The old pump models include BA and B single-stage single suction centrifugal pumps. In the 1980s, China updated and developed centrifugal pump products based on international standards and the actual situation of drainage and irrigation machinery, and produced IB and IQ single-stage centrifugal pump series products, which have been listed as national professional standards and industry standards.
Single stage single suction centrifugal pump, where water enters the impeller from the axial direction on one side and there is only one impeller, is called a single stage single suction centrifugal pump. Its characteristics are that compared with mixed flow pumps and axial flow pumps, it has a higher head, smaller flow rate, simple structure, and convenient use.
IQ type single stage single suction centrifugal pump (also known as light and small centrifugal pump) is designed to meet the requirements of simple structure, light weight, low price, good performance, and convenient matching proposed by users in China. There are a total of 84 products, divided into 3 derivative series and 413 specification models.
(1) Performance range: The pump has a diameter of 50-200 millimeters, a flow rate of 12.5-400 cubic meters per hour, a head of 8-125 meters, and is equipped with diesel engine direct connection, belt transmission, and electric motor direct connection. The power is 1.1-110 kilowatts, and the speed is 1450-2900 revolutions per minute.
(2) The structural type of the lightweight centrifugal pump is an axial suction single-stage single suction suspension centrifugal pump. The pump body opens the door behind, and the outlet is located in the center upwards. The back cover is a pressure embedded type, and the bearing body is directly connected to the pump body. The pump foot is located below the pump body, and the bearings are lubricated with butter. The shaft seal is divided into three types: soft packing, mechanical seal, and rubber oil seal. The impellers are all closed, and the transmission is divided into two types: coupling transmission and belt transmission. Pump impeller rotation: From the direction of the pump inlet, the impeller rotation is clockwise. When the pump is directly connected to the diesel engine for transmission, it is counterclockwise. The pump outlet can be equipped with a manual pump, which can remove the bottom valve, reduce hydraulic loss, and enable the pump to self suction.
2. Single stage double suction centrifugal pump
It is a single-stage double suction centrifugal pump that receives water from both sides of the impeller. As the pump cover and pump body are assembled using horizontal seams, it is also known as a horizontally split centrifugal pump. Compared with single-stage single suction centrifugal pumps, it has higher efficiency, larger flow rate, and higher head. But it is large in size and relatively bulky, usually used for fixed operations. Suitable for irrigation areas with moderate areas in hills and plateaus, as well as for factories, mines, urban water supply and drainage, etc.
There are several models of single-stage double suction centrifugal pumps, including S-type, Sh type, SA type, and SLA type. The difference between S-type and Sh type is that from the driving end, S-type pumps rotate clockwise while Sh type rotates counterclockwise. The SLA type is a vertical single-stage double suction centrifugal pump.
The performance range of the S-type pump is 160-18000 cubic meters per hour, with a head of 12-125 meters, an inlet diameter of 150-1400 millimeters, and a rotational speed of 2950, 1450, 970, 730, 585, 485, and 360 revolutions per minute.
(1) The performance range of the D-type pump is 6.3-720 cubic meters per hour, with a head of 16-600 meters and inlet diameters of 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, and 200 millimeters. The 50-125 millimeter pump type has a high speed of 2950 revolutions per minute, and the 150-200 millimeter pump type has a speed of 1480 revolutions per minute.
(2) The structural type of D-type multi-stage centrifugal pump is a horizontal multi-stage (2-12 stages), with a single suction impeller and a segmented pump body. When the first stage impeller is double suction, it is represented by DS. When two speeds are specified simultaneously, low speed is represented by DA. For multi-stage centrifugal pumps used for boiler feedwater, it is represented by DG.
3. Self suction centrifugal pump
A self-priming pump is a single-stage, single suction centrifugal pump that generates self-priming effect due to the special structure of the pump itself, and is called a self-priming centrifugal pump. Compared with ordinary centrifugal pumps, there are significant differences in pump body structure: firstly, the pump inlet position is raised, and sometimes a suction valve is also installed; Secondly, a gas water separation chamber is installed on the outlet side.
External self suction pump refers to a pump equipped with a self suction device, such as a vortex pump, water ring vacuum pump, jet pump, and manual pump.
Compared with ordinary centrifugal pumps, self priming pumps have a compact structure and simple operation. They not only save the trouble of filling a large amount of water before starting, but also save the low valve of the inlet pipe, reduce the inlet resistance, and increase the pump's output. However, compared with ordinary centrifugal pumps of the same specifications, the efficiency is 3% to 5% lower. Self priming pumps are commonly used in small and light sprinkler irrigation units and pipeline irrigation units.
