About the product

Inspection, Adjustment, and Maintenance of Diesel Generator Fuel Injectors

1. Inspection of Fuel Injection Pressure
When checking the fuel injection pressure of a diesel generator's injector, first purge the air from the test equipment's oil circuit. Open the three-way valve to supply oil simultaneously to both the injector and the pressure gauge from the fuel injection pump. Slowly operate the handle at a rate of 10 to 20 times per minute. When the injector begins to spray, the reading on the pressure gauge indicates the injection pressure. If the pressure does not meet specifications, adjustments are necessary. Adjustments can be made by turning the adjusting screw to change the spring force on the needle valve. Tightening the screw increases the injection pressure, while loosening it decreases the pressure. After adjustment, ensure the lock nut is securely tightened to prevent the adjusting screw from loosening, and recheck the pressure. For injectors with adjustable gaskets, modify the gasket thickness to increase or decrease the injection pressure accordingly.

The injection pressure should be adjusted based on the technical condition of the fuel injection pump and the injector. If both components are in good condition, set the injection pressure to the upper limit of the specified range. Conversely, if significant wear is present, adjust the pressure to the lower limit of the specified range.

2. Inspection of Spray Quality
With the injector operating within the standard pressure range, press the handle at a rate of 60 to 80 times per minute to initiate spraying. The spray quality should meet the following criteria:
- The fuel should be atomized into a fine mist without visible oil droplets, oil jets, or uneven distribution.
- The fuel cut-off should be sharp, accompanied by a clear sound during spraying.
- There should be no dripping before or after spraying. After multiple sprays, there should be no dampness around the nozzle.
Injectors that exhibit poor atomization, visible oil droplets or jets, or stuck needle valves must be replaced with new units.

3. Inspection of Spray Cone Angle
Place a piece of white paper 150 to 200mm directly below the injector. After spraying, inspect the spray cone angle based on the diameter of the oil trace on the paper and the spray distance. For a properly functioning injector, the spray cone angle is 4°, corresponding to an oil trace diameter of approximately 10mm. If the diameter exceeds 10mm, the spray cone angle is too wide, indicating nozzle wear, and the injector should be replaced. For single-hole axial needle injectors, the oil trace should form a uniform circle. For multi-hole symmetrical injectors, the oil traces from each hole should be identical, without deflection or scattering, forming a regular conical shape with a cone angle that meets specifications.

4. Inspection and Repair of Needle Valve Assembly Sealing Performance
The sealing seat surface of the needle valve is susceptible to pitting and indentation due to high-pressure, high-temperature gas impact and erosion, as well as shock when the needle valve closes. Inspect the sealing condition using a fuel injector test bench. Adjust the fuel injection pressure to the specified value and press the test bench's fuel supply handle. When the pressure approaches but has not yet reached the injection pressure, observe the area around the needle valve spray hole. At this point, there should be no oil leakage, though slight wetting is permissible. After several injections, there should still be no accumulation of diesel or severe oil leakage around the spray hole; otherwise, replace the needle valve assembly. For minor wear on the sealing conical surface, apply a small amount of fine chromium oxide grinding paste for lapping, ensuring it does not contact the guide surface of the needle valve body.
