I. Common Fault Types and Cause Analysis of Fuel Injectors
1. Poor Atomization
When functioning correctly, a fuel injector should disperse diesel fuel in a fine mist. Poor atomization is characterized by large droplets and uneven spray patterns. This condition can be attributed to several factors:
- **Wear of the Needle Valve Pair**: Prolonged operation under high temperature and pressure, coupled with abrasive contaminants in the fuel, can increase the clearance between the needle valve and its body.
- **Abnormal Injection Pressure**: Both excessively high and low injection pressures can impair atomization. Excessive pressure may result from deformation of the needle valve's spray holes, while insufficient pressure is often due to failure of the pressure-regulating spring or wear on the fuel pump's delivery valve pressure relief ring.
- **Excessive Carbon Deposits**: Severe carbon buildup inside the injector can cause the needle valve to stick, thereby affecting the injection process.
2. Oil Dripping Phenomenon
Oil dripping not only wastes fuel but also leads to issues such as black smoke emissions and reduced engine power. The primary causes include:
- **Poor Sealing**: Wear on the sealing conical surface between the needle valve and its body reduces sealing effectiveness.
- **Excessive Return Oil**: Uneven mating surfaces between the injector body and the needle valve pair, or failure of the pressure-regulating spring, can increase return oil volume.
3. Injector Sticking or Failure to Spray
These faults are typically caused by excessive impurities in the fuel supply system, improper installation of the injector, or long-term high-temperature erosion.
II. Fault Handling Methods
1. Handling Poor Atomization
- **Cleaning and Grinding**: Disassemble the injector and clean the needle valve and valve body using a specialized cleaning agent to remove carbon deposits and impurities. For minor wear on the sealing conical surface, use aluminum oxide grinding paste for repair.
- **Adjusting Injection Pressure**: Utilize a fuel injector test bench to adjust the injection pressure within the specified range by rotating the pressure adjustment screw. During adjustment, monitor the pressure gauge reading and listen to the injector's operational sound to ensure accuracy.
- **Replacing Components**: If the needle valve pair is severely worn or the spray holes are deformed, replace the needle valve pair with new components.
2. Handling Oil Dripping Phenomenon
- **Sealing Inspection**: Focus on inspecting the sealing conical surface between the needle valve and its body. If wear or unevenness is detected, perform grinding and repair.
- **Adjusting Return Oil Volume**: If the return oil volume is excessive due to uneven mating surfaces, grind the injector body and needle valve pair on a flat plate until they mate tightly.
- **Pressure Regulating Spring Check**: Ensure the pressure-regulating spring is intact, without breakage or slack, and that its elasticity meets specifications.

3. Handling of Stuck or Non-Functioning Fuel Injectors
- **Cleaning and Unclogging**: For fuel injectors that are stuck due to impurities, it is essential to clean the carbon deposits and contaminants within the injector. If necessary, employ mild corrosive agents to clear blockages in the spray holes.
- **Installation Verification**: Ensure proper installation of the fuel injector to prevent air leaks. During installation, use a flat copper gasket and evenly tighten the securing nut to ensure a secure seal.
- **Component Replacement**: If the fuel injector is severely damaged and cannot be repaired, replace it with a new injector assembly.
