usage method In addition to its cooling function, the coolant for modern car engines must also address four major issues: pitting, chemical corrosion, electrochemical corrosion, and scale buildup. Coolant is a mixture of water and antifreeze. Due to different sources of water, its composition and cleanliness also vary. Therefore, when adding coolant, pay attention to the following aspects. 1. Do not add well water or sewage Water can be divided into two types based on whether minerals are dissolved or not: hard water and soft water. Hard water contains ions such as iron, calcium, and magnesium. Untreated well water and spring water belong to hard water. If this type of hard water is added to the engine and heated and evaporated by the engine, compounds such as calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate will be produced, which will precipitate and form scale. And scale, on the one hand, is a poor conductor of heat. On the other hand, when scale increases to a certain extent, it will narrow the pipeline and reduce the flow of water, which will affect engine heat dissipation and cause engine overheating. However, sewage contains sediment and decaying organic matter, which can corrode water tanks and cylinder sleeves, affecting their service life. 2. Don't ignore or ask After adding long-lasting coolant to the engine, the water tank cover should be opened for inspection after a period of operation. If there is water pollution, rust, and sediment in the water tank, the coolant should be replaced in a timely manner. 3. Do not run without water Driving in hot weather accelerates the evaporation of coolant in the water tank. It is important to constantly check the coolant level and observe the coolant temperature gauge. If the water tank is not fully filled, there will be problems with the circulation of coolant in the water jacket, and the water temperature is prone to rise, causing "boiling". Some cars are difficult to fill up when adding water, and their water tank is located lower than the engine. When adding water, the water tank inlet shows that it is full, but in reality, there is a lack of water in the engine water jacket. If driving recklessly, the water tank is prone to "boiling". The correct method for this type of car is to start the engine after the water inlet shows full. When the engine temperature rises to the point where the thermostat opens, the air in the water jacket will be expelled, and the water level will drop. At this point, the water tank can be filled again. For sedans, the coolant level should be between the "high" and "low" lines on the outer surface of the compensating water bucket. 4. Do not open the lid of the water tank rashly when boiling Because when boiling, the temperature inside the water tank is very high (at least 100 ℃) and the pressure is high. If the water tank cover is suddenly opened, the boiling water and steam will quickly spray out, which can easily burn the person adding water. When "boiling" occurs, it is generally recommended to idle and wait for the engine temperature to drop before opening the lid to add coolant. If time is tight, you can first cover the water tank cover with a damp cloth, then wrap your hands in a damp towel, and slowly open the water tank cover. In addition, the speed of adding coolant should not be too fast, it should be added slowly. 5. Do not spill water onto the engine when adding water When adding water, if water is spilled onto the spark plug socket, high-voltage wire socket, or distributor of the engine, it may have an impact on sparking; Water splashing onto the drive belt may also cause it to slip; Spraying on the body may also cause deformation or even cracking of the body. 6. Don't forget to add antifreeze to the coolant Some drivers believe that antifreeze does not need to be added to the coolant in summer. This idea is incorrect. Because antifreeze can prevent the coolant from boiling prematurely, increase the boiling point of the coolant, and prevent the water tank from boiling prematurely. In addition, antifreeze also contains rust inhibitor and foam inhibitor. Rust inhibitors can delay or prevent rusting and corrosion of engine water jacket walls and radiators. The air in the coolant will produce many foam under the agitation of the water pump impeller, and these foam will hinder the heat dissipation of the water jacket wall. Foam inhibitor can effectively inhibit the production of foam. 7. Do not let the human body come into contact with antifreeze Antifreeze and its additives are toxic substances.
