In order to extend the service life of piston rings and ensure their reliable operation, the materials used to manufacture piston rings should have good wear resistance, heat resistance, thermal conductivity, and sufficient strength, elasticity, and impact toughness. Currently, alloy cast iron (with a small amount of copper, chromium, molybdenum and other alloying elements added to high-quality gray cast iron) or ductile iron are widely used to manufacture piston rings. In order to further improve the performance of piston rings and extend their service life, the outer surface of the first gas ring is subjected to porous chrome plating treatment, because the porous chrome layer has high hardness and can store a certain amount of lubricating oil, which can improve lubrication conditions.
