The stamford PFC3 power factor controller is typically used in conjunction with the MX321-2 voltage regulator.

The Power Factor Controller (PFC3) is designed to control the reactive current (VAr) and power factor of the generator during operation when it is in parallel with the public power grid. The PFC3 is also equipped with voltage matching facilities and is used in conjunction with automatic synchronization equipment. This distribution and the need for electric potentiometers and the cost of allowing lower to be used synchronizers are synchronized.

The PFC3 can also be connected to provide power factor correction for the generator, feeding reactive current into the incoming feeder. A current-limiting device is provided.

Prevent generator overload. The control loop in PFC3 has two operating modes that allow the starter regulator to match the best response and the generator voltage regulator. "Dynamic control" is the preferred method for providing continuous correction and high accuracy. "Deadband control" provides another method that allows the power factor or (VAr) to drift between preset limits before any correction signal is given. This method is used in places where system stability may be an issue. Internally limit the output of PFC3 to limit the maximum (or minimum) voltage of the generator when it is abnormal.

Operating conditions. This prevents the generator from attempting to match an unrealistic power supply voltage and also limits the consumer bus voltage in the event of a power failure.
PFC3 contains an excitation limiting circuit to prevent the generator from being driven to zero (or near zero) excitation when operating at a leading power factor.
