After the diesel engine combustion phase

Feb 12, 2021

The stage from the point of the highest combustion temperature to the end of combustion. At this stage, a large amount of oxygen has been consumed, and the later injected fuel will not have enough oxygen to mix with it for combustion.

In addition to the further downward movement of the piston, the pressure and temperature in the cylinder will drop significantly, making the combustion conditions worse. As a result, the fuel is burned incompletely and the exhaust gas emits black smoke, which increases the thermal load of related parts and affects the economy and service life of the diesel engine.

Therefore, combustion in the afterburning period should be minimized. (Excerpt from "Cummins Generator Diesel Engine" by Weng Mengchao, Zhejiang Normal University)
