Dec 16, 2024

The Brazilian "yellow line" construction machinery and equipment market is expected to achieve positive growth this year. The Brazilian Construction Machinery Market Research Report, released by the Brazilian Association of Construction and Mining Technology, predicts that sales of "yellow line" equipment will increase by 14% in 2024 compared to 2023, with an expected sales volume of 36600 units, compared to 32300 units sold last year.

The "yellow line" construction machinery refers to mechanical equipment directly used for construction and earthwork projects, including excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, graders, excavator loaders, and skid steer loaders. This sales growth marks the recovery of the market. In 2023, the market saw an 18% decrease in sales compared to 2022. The reasons for achieving good performance this year include the preferential policies and subsidies introduced by manufacturers, which effectively promoted the growth of sales of some categories of equipment; The increase in the number of infrastructure construction projects; And the active development of the real estate market.

In 2024, sales of compact equipment increased by over 30%, with small excavators growing by 32%, and skid steer loaders being the largest category with a 39% increase in sales.

Another highlight is the road roller, with sales increasing by 30%, reflecting an increase in road and highway projects.

Among the three major categories with high sales, only wheel loaders experienced a decline, with sales dropping by 10% and approximately 6000 units sold. This is the second consecutive year of declining sales in this category, a significant decrease compared to 9200 units in 2022. Hydraulic excavators and excavator loaders increased by 13% and 19% respectively.

The category of "other equipment" includes high-altitude work platforms, portable compressors, telescopic forklifts, and concrete equipment. According to research by the Brazilian Association of Construction and Mining Technology, this category is expected to remain stable with sales similar to 2023, at around 8000 units. Among them, the sales of concrete pump trucks increased significantly: fixed pumps increased by 35%, and fabric pump machines increased by 25%. In addition, heavy road trucks and wheeled tractors required for construction are expected to increase by 2% year-on-year.

Taking into account all categories, the association's report predicts that the overall sales of construction machinery in Brazil will increase by 9% in 2024 compared to 2023, reaching 58200 units, compared to 53500 units last year.

Another noteworthy development is the significant decrease in the proportion of idle devices, from 19% in 2023 to 11%. This is the lowest level since 2017, when the idle ratio reached 57%.

For 2025, the Brazilian Association of Construction and Mining Technology predicts that the sales of "yellow line" equipment will remain stable, with a growth rate of only 1%; The entire construction machinery industry is expected to grow by 2%.
