The Xiangshan Forum on Data Center Backup Power, which marks its eleventh year, was held for the first time in Chongqing. The forum was hosted by the China Data Center Working Group (CDCC) and co organized by Cummins. Nearly 200 big data industry experts, designers, data center operators and builders, as well as more than 20 data center users represented by Internet heads, attended the forum to discuss how to meet the high-quality energy-saving development needs of China's big data industry and standby power through technological innovation.
With the booming development of the digital economy and AIGC industry, data centers, as computing power carriers, have ushered in unprecedented development opportunities, and stable and reliable backup power is the key guarantee for their stable operation.
CDCC team leader Zhong Jinghua stated in the opening speech of the conference that standards have always played an important role in the development of data centers, and summarized the development of data centers in China into four stages from the perspective of standard development.
In 1993, China released the Code for Design of Electronic Computer Room, GB 50174-1993, marking the first stage of development for data centers in China, characterized by the construction of separate operating spaces for computers;
In 2008, China released the Code for Design of Electronic Information System Room, GB 50174-2008, marking the second stage of development for Chinese data centers, characterized by the connection between IT equipment and networks;
In 2017, China released the Code for Design of Data Centers, GB 50174-2017, marking the third stage of development for Chinese data centers, characterized by the increasing scale of data center construction;
The fourth stage is the upcoming release of the Data Center Project Specification, marking the entry of China's data centers into the fourth stage of development, characterized by high-quality development, safety, reliability, energy conservation, and environmental protection.
At the same time, Zhong summarized and reviewed the positive role played by Xiangshan Forum in the field of backup power supply for data centers over the past 11 years, and looked forward to Xiangshan Forum continuing to play a role in industry experience and technology exchange, promoting the high-quality development of China's data centers.
During the conference, the attending guests jointly launched a heavyweight initiative, and all parties will further promote the use of safe, reliable, energy-saving and environmentally friendly backup power sources in data centers. Through technological innovation, new energy-saving solutions for data centers will be explored, and domestic and foreign industry experience sharing will be strengthened to help data center users and builders seek broader development in domestic and foreign markets.
Tom Shepherd, Executive Director of Cummins Global Power Business Data Center Industry, also shared with the attendees the development experience of overseas data centers. This year's Xiangshan Forum is the first to leave Beijing and enter Chongqing. The attending experts and industry partners visited Cummins' unique high-power R&D center of Cummins in China, Cummins' high-power engine manufacturing base, and Cummins China Microgrid Innovation Center, witnessing Cummins' forward-looking R&D layout, advanced production and manufacturing capabilities, and strict quality management system for backup power products. They gained a more intuitive understanding of Cummins' innovation, high quality, and high performance products.
