Fault code FC1713
The yellow fault light of the engine is on, indicating that the urea solution has deteriorated and the engine performance is gradually declining. What caused it? How should we handle it?
Fault code triggering principle
Fault code FC1713 indicates that the diesel engine exhaust treatment fluid (urea) tank heater is continuously connected. When the engine control module (ECM) commands the heating solenoid valve to be in the off position, the ECM detects that the urea temperature in the urea tank is higher than the calibration temperature, indicating that the urea tank heating solenoid valve is in the on position.
Fault clearing code
Check for heating solenoid valve circuit faults FC1677, FC1678, FC1679, FC1683, FC1684, FC3576, FC4737 for priority treatment.

Check whether the installation directions of the inlet and outlet water pipes of the urea tank heating solenoid valve are consistent with the interface of the solenoid valve. If they are installed in reverse, it will cause the heating circuit to be in a long-term connected state.

If the above methods fail to solve the fault, replace the heating solenoid valve.
Although the cause of the malfunction and the handling method have been mastered, some users may still be confused about why the urea injection system needs to be heated?
Reasons for Heating the Urea System
For Cummins industrial four-stage products with a displacement of over 6L, the SCR system is adopted. By reacting urea with NOx to convert it into nitrogen, NOx emissions are reduced.
Urea will freeze at -11℃, so the heater will be activated when the equipment is operating in a cold environment.
If the sensor value of the environmental temperature is lower than -4℃, the ECM will issue a heating instruction to enter the defrosting state and turn on the pipeline heating to defrost the residual urea remaining in the pump/pipe (Method B).
If the urea temperature in the urea tank is lower than -5℃, the ECM will open the heating solenoid valve to defrost the urea tank and urea pump (Method A). The pre-injection will start only after all the parts in the system have completed defrosting.
When the urea temperature in the urea tank is heated to 15℃, the heating will be stopped. During daily maintenance, it is necessary to regularly check the working condition of the heating system to ensure the normal operation of the equipment. Also, use the original factory urea solution in accordance with the specifications to prevent system damage caused by impurities or abnormal chemical reactions.
