Spark plugs, commonly known as fire nozzles, are used in gas generator sets. The function of a spark plug is to discharge the pulse high-voltage electricity sent by the high-voltage wire (nozzle wire), breaking through the air between the two electrodes of the spark plug, generating an electric spark that ignites the mixed gas in the cylinder. The main types include: quasi type spark plugs, edge protruding spark plugs, electrode type spark plugs, seat type spark plugs, pole type spark plugs, surface sparking spark plugs, etc. The spark plug, in conjunction with the ignition system and fuel supply system, determines the engine's performance to a large extent. How much do you know about the maintenance of spark plugs for 200KW natural gas generator sets? The spark plug of a 200KW natural gas generator set should be maintained every 250 hours of operation, and the specific maintenance period depends on the actual usage environment of the spark plug.

Clean carbon deposits on spark plugs and adjust electrode gaps

The electrode gap of spark plugs is generally 0.65mm. If the electrode gap is too small, the spark is weak and it is prone to carbon deposition and leakage. If the gap is too large, the required breakdown voltage will increase. When the gap value increases to 0.89mm, the 200KW natural gas generator set is difficult to start, and is prone to intermittent or non ignition phenomena, making the natural gas generator set unstable in operation and even stopping.

 

The adjustment method for the spark plug gap of the generator set is:

Use a spark plug wrench (22mm) to remove the spark plug.

Clean carbon deposits and other dirt from the spark plug electrodes and their installation threads.

Use an electrode gap adjustment tool to adjust the electrode gap to the specified value.

Reinstall the spark plug into the cylinder head.

Attention:

If the rotation resistance of the spark plug during disassembly or installation is too high, an M18X1.5 tap should be used to repair the threaded seat hole of the cylinder head spark plug.

When the spark plug is installed in the cylinder head, its tightening torque is 43N · m-52 N · m. After tightening the spark plug, ensure that the threaded end face at the bottom of the spark plug is flush with the bottom surface of the cylinder head.

If the adjusted spark plug still cannot function properly, it should be replaced.

 

Measure the resistance value of the spark plug

The internal resistance of new spark plugs is generally 1k Ω. As the usage environment (mainly environmental humidity) changes, the internal resistance will increase. When the resistance value increases to around 20k Ω, it will greatly affect the ignition effect.

The method of measuring the resistance value of a spark plug with a multimeter is to connect one end of the multimeter to the tail of the spark plug, the connection point with the high-voltage ignition wire, and the other end to the electrode at the head of the spark plug. When the measured resistance value is too large and affects the ignition effect, it should be replaced.

The method of measuring whether a spark plug is short circuited with a multimeter is to connect one end of the multimeter to the tail of the spark plug, the connection point with the high-voltage ignition wire, and the other end to the spark plug housing. If there is no resistance value, it indicates that the spark plug is short circuited and should be replaced.

 

Attention: If the combustible gas is not fully treated, the corrosive gas (such as H2S) contained in it will gradually corrode the spark plug electrode, causing the electrode to become shorter and shorter until it cannot ignite normally. Therefore, the corrosion of the electrode should be checked regularly and the spark plug of the natural gas generator set should be replaced in a timely manner according to the actual situation
