On April 3rd, China State Shipbuilding Corporation Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding and China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), as joint sellers, held a naming and delivery ceremony for the 5500TEU container series ship "CMA CGM TIGA" built for CMA-CGM. The smooth delivery of the ship marks the successful completion of the CMA-CGM's 10 5500TEU container ships project, further consolidating the long-term strategic partnership between the two parties.
The naming ceremony was attended by relevant unit leaders and guests, including Jiang Binjie, name bearer of the new ship, Jan V. Iversen, the regional supervision director of CMA-CGM in France, Zhou Jiliang, the director of Clarkson (Hong Kong) Limited, Steffy Bonfils, the HSE manager of the French Classification Society (BV) Group, Du Yongjun, the secretary of the Party branch of the Design Department II of Shanghai Shipbuilding Research and Design Institute, Zhang Dalei, the general manager of the Ship and Sea Department II of China Shipbuilding Industry and Trade Co., Ltd., and Yin Haijun, the assistant general manager of Beihai Shipbuilding.
The CMA CGM TIGA is a new type of main medium-sized container ship designed by Beihai Shipbuilding and Shanghai Shipbuilding Research and Design Institute (SDARI) for CMA-CGM, which is energy-saving, environmentally friendly, green, safe, and efficient. As a breakthrough in Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding's entry into the medium-sized container ship market, this type of ship has a total length of 255.5 meters, a width of 40.0 meters, a depth of 22.0 meters, a structural draft of 14.0 meters, and a carrying capacity of 73025.91 tons. The series of ships adopts the latest generation WinGD7X82-2.0 main engine, equipped with SCR and AMP to reduce sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide emissions.
This type of ship has passed the French Classification Society ESA classification symbol certification, optimized its hydrodynamic performance, and its EEDI index has decreased by 53.6% compared to the baseline, far exceeding the IMO three-stage standard. Equipped with the French Classification Society FORS symbol rapid oil recovery system, it can quickly recover fuel from the fuel tank in case of an accident. The low-voltage system provides an insulation alarm positioning system for the power distribution of refrigerated containers, improving the efficiency of crew troubleshooting while ensuring their personal safety. The elastic deformation of large ship structures is taken into account in the calculation of shaft elastic calibration to avoid wear and damage to propeller shafts and bearings.

During the construction process of the series of ships, Beihai Shipbuilding carefully summarized the previous construction experience and continuously optimized the process and methods. By strengthening the implementation of key projects and milestone plans, continuously improving product quality, all test data of this series of ships have exceeded the specifications and contract requirements, and have received high recognition and unanimous praise from CMA-CGM and French Classification Society.
The 5500TEU container series ship project is an important achievement of deepening cooperation between Beihai Shipbuilding and CMA-CGM. The successful delivery of the series of ships not only provides energy-saving, environmentally friendly, and efficient transportation support for CMA-CGM Shipping, but also further consolidates Beihai Shipbuilding's position in the medium-sized container ship market, demonstrating the company's leading position in the field of green and intelligent ship construction.
Beihai Shipbuilding will continue to uphold the core values of customer first, value creation, and harmonious win-win, continuously improve its technological level and construction capabilities, provide more high-quality ships for the global shipping industry, and contribute to the high-quality development of the marine economy!
