Chinese Shipyard Accepts Orders! Norwegian Shipowner Orders Largest Container Ship

Jun 29, 2025

Norwegian shipowner Arne Blysta has placed an order with Penglai Zhongbai Jinglu Shipping Industry to build three 3000TEU container ships and expand its container ship fleet.

It is reported that this is Arne Blysta's first time ordering a new container ship in the past three years. The new ship is scheduled to be delivered in 2027 and will use traditional power, with a total value of approximately 130 million US dollars (about 934 million yuan), equivalent to a single ship price of 43.3 million US dollars.

As a reference, Clarkson's data shows that the current price for a new 2600/2900 TEU container ship is about $45 million, an increase of 12% compared to the same period last year's $41.25 million.

These three new ships from Jinglu Shipping Industry will become the largest container ships in Arne Blysta's fleet. According to Clarkson's data, Arne Blysta currently operates 7 container ships through its subsidiary Songa Box, with the largest being 2 2592TEU feeder ships, the Puerto Limon Express (built in 2009) and the Santa Marta Express (built in 2010).

It is reported that Arne Blysta sold his container shipping company Songa Container to MPC Container Ships in 2021 and subsequently launched the establishment of a new container shipping company Songa Box. From 2021 to 2022, Songa Box has ordered three 1781 TEU container ships from Huanghai Shipbuilding, which will be delivered in 2022, 2023, and 2024 respectively. The first ship "Safir 1" was sold to Safeen Feeders in September 2022 and renamed as "Remah".

Except for orders from Huanghai Shipbuilding, Arne Blysta has not ordered any new container ships in recent years, but has expanded Songa Box's fleet by acquiring second-hand ships. At the same time, Arne Blysta's business territory also covers the field of oil tankers and offshore factory ship. The company has 18 13000 to 25000 deadweight ton chemical tankers, and also operates a platform supply vessel (PSV) "Songa Commander" (built in 2010).

It is reported that Jinglu Shipping Industry was established in April 2006 and is affiliated with Qingdao Rongfa Group. It is a state-owned large-scale modern shipbuilding enterprise, mainly engaged in the manufacturing of ships and marine engineering equipment, with a total area of 1.8 million square meters and an annual production capacity of 1 million deadweight tons. Jinglu Shipping Industry has one 300000-ton dry dock, one 35000-ton, one 10000-ton, and one 5000-ton lifting floating dock. The total length of the outfitting dock is about 3000 meters, and the shipbuilding specialized equipment and facilities, including 1000-ton and 500-ton shipbuilding gantry cranes, are complete.

Excluding the latest orders, according to Clarkson's data, as of now, Jinglu Shipping Industry has 43 orders of 2.8578 million deadweight tons, including 29 oil tankers, 8 container ships, and 6 bulk carriers, with delivery scheduled for 2028.
