Recently, the first Scania saddle tractor assembled in a Chinese factory rolled off the production line in Jiangsu Province, marking a key breakthrough for this Swedish high-end heavy truck manufacturer in local production in China. At present, this prototype vehicle has begun road tests across the country.
For a long time, all the vehicles sold by Scania in the Chinese market have been purely imported. It has never formed joint ventures with local enterprises or carried out local production. The import model, combined with high transportation costs and tariffs, has led to high product prices. However, this high threshold has to some extent shaped Scania's high-end and reliable image among Chinese drivers, and it is widely regarded as one of the industry benchmarks.
With the gradual opening up of China's manufacturing policies, foreign-funded enterprises can independently build factories without being forced to form joint ventures. Scania promptly initiated its local layout. The Jiangsu factory that has just started production will be responsible for assembling tractors equipped with Scania DC13 17X series engines, covering a variety of power configurations ranging from 420 to 560 horsepower, to meet the demands of different transportation conditions. Mass production is expected to be fully launched this autumn.
According to the current information, the initial price of the domestic Scania tractor with 4×2 drive form is 688,000 yuan. Market rumors suggest that its actual selling price may be between 500,000 and 600,000 yuan. The specific price is still subject to the official announcement. Compared with the previous import prices, the price advantage of the new car will significantly enhance its competitiveness in China's high-end heavy truck market.
Localized production is not only expected to reduce costs, but also accelerate the delivery cycle, improve the efficiency of after-sales service, and further enhance Scania's brand penetration rate in the Chinese market. It can be foreseen that with the launch of "Made in China" Scania trucks, this global high-end heavy truck brand will stir up new competitive waves in China's high-end transportation market.
