The Russian Truck Market Has Suddenly Cooled Down: Sales in April 2025 Hit A New Low For The Year, And The Share Of Imported Cars Has Significantly Shrunk

May 19, 2025

In April 2025, the new truck market in Russia remained sluggish, continuing the previous downward trend. The sales volume of new trucks for the month was 4985, a sharp drop of 56% compared to 11248 in April 2024, and a 3% decrease compared to the previous month, setting a record for the lowest monthly sales of the year.

In the first four months of 2025, the cumulative sales of new trucks in Russia reached 21588 units, a significant decrease of 47% compared to 41024 units in the same period of 2024. It is worth mentioning that sales in March decreased by 9% compared to February, and further decline in April indicates that the market has not shown any signs of recovery.

In terms of sales structure, imported trucks have been severely impacted. In April 2025, the proportion of imported brand trucks in total sales will significantly decrease from 66% last year to 50%, with sales plummeting from 7437 to 2511, a drop of up to 66%. Despite a 35% decline in sales of domestically produced trucks in Russia from 3811 to 2474, their overall market share has significantly increased from 34% to 50%.

The performance in April was generally poor, with all but one of the top ten brands experiencing a decline in sales. The most significant declines include: Shaanxi Automobile (Shacman, -79%), FAW (FAW, -72%), Dongfeng (Dongfeng, -67%), and Sitrak (-62%). As a local representative, KAMAZ (-31%) experienced a relatively mild decline, with sales dropping from 2164 units to 1494 units.

The only brand to achieve positive growth is Isuzu, whose sales increased by 20% year-on-year to 206 units, successfully ranking among the top ten sales in April.

There is also a similar trend in terms of vehicle models. Except for two models, the top ten main products all recorded a decline in sales. Among them, Kamaz-43118 (6 × 6) performed outstandingly, with sales increasing by 21%, becoming the monthly sales champion; Isuzu Elf grew by 9% and performed steadily. Gazon Next maintained its second place with 341 units sold, but experienced a year-on-year decline of 38%. Among imported models, Sitrak C7H (6 × 4) ranked third with 273 units, but decreased by 70% year-on-year.

Overall, the new truck market in Russia in April 2025 is facing multiple pressures, with continued weak demand and particularly setbacks for imported models. However, the market share of domestic brands has achieved a passive increase due to relative resistance to decline. Whether the market can stabilize and rebound in the future remains to be seen.
