Recently, a key project for the local alumina self-owned thermal power plant on Penebang Island, West Kalimantan, Indonesia, reached an important construction milestone. On-site, Zoomlion's 500-ton ZCC6000 crawler crane Unit No. 1 officially commenced operations, efficiently handling the lifting of heavy components and overcoming the challenges of high-altitude hoisting on the island with its robust performance, significantly accelerating and improving the project's efficiency.
The project is a national strategic industrial initiative in Indonesia, following the construction sequence of building the power plant first, then launching smelting operations. Currently, efforts are focused intensively on installing the self-provided coal-fired thermal power plant. Due to the site's location in a tropical island rainforest, the area is narrow and muddy, with frequent strong winds. Moreover, the main boiler building reaches over 75 meters in height, requiring large steel structures and heat-exchange equipment-each weighing heavily and needing to be positioned at considerable distances. Standard cranes lack sufficient boom length and lifting capacity to cover the entire work area. With multiple construction sections overlapping, available space for crane positioning is further limited, making precise long-distance high-altitude hoisting a critical bottleneck affecting the schedule. To overcome these challenges, the project's hoisting team conducted extensive load calculations and scenario comparisons, ultimately selecting Zoomlion's ZCC6000 crawler crane and innovatively adopting a dedicated super-lift tower boom configuration.

The ZCC6000 crawler crane is equipped with a high-strength, lightweight truss boom and a multi-stage adjustable super lift counterweight system. Its large-span crawler chassis is designed to adapt to soft ground conditions on islands, offering excellent resistance to lateral wind forces. Featuring an intelligent electric control console paired with a panoramic monitoring system, the crane achieves micro-motion control precision at the millimeter level, enabling smooth and precise high-altitude alignment of heavy components. On site, the ZCC6000's 100-meter composite boom extends into the sky, effortlessly lifting massive loads such as over 60-ton boiler drums, dozens of tons of water-cooled wall modules, and extra-long high-temperature flue ducts. Throughout operations, the crane maintains stable lifting and smooth slewing and luffing movements, achieving zero deviation in component positioning even under challenging conditions including island gusty winds and muddy foundations.
Zoomlion's comprehensive localized overseas service system also ensures smooth project execution. Prior to equipment delivery, the company's on-site technical team in Indonesia closely supervised boom assembly, super lift system commissioning, and on-site load curve verification. During construction, a 24/7 operational support mechanism was established, with customized maintenance plans tailored to the local high-temperature and high-humidity climate. Joint training programs were conducted for both Chinese and Indonesian operators, ensuring uninterrupted, round-the-clock equipment operation and eliminating concerns regarding equipment maintenance and operations in overseas projects.
The practical application of Zoomlion equipment in this project not only overcame technical challenges in high-altitude lifting for island thermal power projects, but also fully demonstrated the reliability of domestically produced heavy-duty crawler cranes in large-scale overseas metallurgical and power engineering.
