The electron beam control module is a type of vacuum electronic device that uses an electric or magnetic field to focus the electrons emitted by the electron gun into a beam, and controls the direction of the electron beam's movement through an electric or magnetic deflection system to achieve the purpose of recording, converting, storing, and displaying information.
There are four main types of its working methods.
(1) Electricity to light conversion. Convert electrical signals into visible light signals, such as various oscilloscope tubes, radar indicator tubes, picture tubes, computer display tubes, projection tubes, etc.
(2) Photoelectric conversion. Converting optical signals into electrical signals mainly refers to various camera tubes. Phototubes and photomultiplier tubes, although also a type of vacuum electronic device for photoelectric conversion, do not belong to electron beam control and are classified as a type of device called phototubes.
(3) Light to light conversion. Convert invisible or weak light signals such as low light, infrared light, and X-rays into electrical signals, and then convert them into visible light signals, such as image tubes, image intensifiers, etc.
(4) Electricity to electricity conversion. Convert signals in the form of potential distribution into electrical signals, such as storage tubes.

The shadow mask color picture tube was first successfully developed by the American Radio Corporation in 1949.
In 1946, Radio Corporation of the United States announced the production of a super positron tube.
In 1950, antimony sulfide video tubes were introduced, but they could only be used in industrial television and film television.
In 1962, the Dutch company Philips successfully developed a lead oxide video tube.
In 1972, Hitachi Corporation of Japan collaborated with the research institute of the Japan Broadcasting Association to successfully develop a selenium arsenic tellurium video tube.
Electron beam control characteristics
These two types of video tubes not only have good photoelectric performance, but also have a simple structure and small volume, gradually replacing superpositive tubes. The positioning tubes, storage tubes, and infrared imaging tubes used in radar and night reconnaissance emerged during World War II. In the late 1960s, various image intensifiers and low light camera tubes emerged.
