Product Introduction The piston pin is a cylindrical pin installed on the skirt of the piston. Its middle passes through the small end hole of the connecting rod, which is used to connect the piston and the connecting rod. Its function is to transmit the gas force borne by the piston to the connecting rod, or to make the small end of the connecting rod drive the piston to move together. In order to reduce weight, piston pins are generally made of high-quality alloy steel and made into hollow sections.
The piston pin is used to connect the piston and connecting rod, and to transmit the force borne by the piston to the connecting rod or vice versa.
The piston pin bears significant periodic impact loads under high temperature conditions, and due to the small swing angle of the piston pin in the pin hole, it is difficult to form a lubricating oil film, resulting in poor lubrication conditions. For this reason, the piston pin must have sufficient stiffness, strength, and wear resistance. The quality should be as small as possible, and there should be appropriate clearance and good surface quality between the pin and the pin hole. In general, the stiffness of the piston pin is particularly important. If the piston pin is bent or deformed, it may cause damage to the piston pin seat.
In short, the working conditions of the piston pin are high pressure ratio, unable to form an oil film, and inconsistent deformation. Therefore, its design requires sufficient mechanical strength and wear resistance, as well as high fatigue strength.
The material of piston pins is generally low-carbon steel or low-carbon alloy steel. 15, 20, 15Cr, 20Cr, and 20Mn2 steels are commonly used in engines with low loads. In reinforced engines, advanced alloy steels such as CrNi3A, 18Cr MnTi2, and 20Si MnVB are used, and sometimes 45 medium carbon steel can also be used.
To make the outer layer of the piston pin hard and wear-resistant, heat treatment is required for the piston pin. Carburization and quenching are carried out on the outer surface of piston pins made of low-carbon steel materials. According to the size of the piston pin, the depth of the carburized layer is generally within the range of 0.5-2mm. For piston pins made of 45 steel, surface quenching is performed with a depth of 1-1.5mm in the quenching layer. Be careful not to harden the piston pin thoroughly during quenching, otherwise the piston pin will become brittle.
The structural shape of the piston pin is very simple, basically a thick walled hollow cylinder. Its inner hole shapes include cylindrical, two truncated cones, and composite shapes. The machining of cylindrical holes is easy, but the mass of piston pins is relatively large; The mass of the piston pin with two truncated conical holes is relatively small, and because the bending moment borne by the piston pin is maximum in the middle, it is close to an equal strength beam, but the machining of the conical hole is difficult.
