Electronic emission control includes EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation), which effectively reduces nitrogen oxide emissions. Previously, Volkswagen diesel engines did not have this device because mechanical control was difficult to achieve very appropriate. The improvement of nozzle design and the increase of fuel injection pressure mean the reduction of noise and emissions. The two-stage nozzle design makes the pressure increase smoothly and reduces the knocking sound of the engine during operation.
The integrated combustion chamber reduces heat loss compared with the previous pre-combustion chamber, and cold start becomes easier, and the previously optional cylinder heating device does not need to be installed. Even at minus 10 degrees, the new glow plug design can shorten the heating cycle by 10 seconds. The integrated combustion chamber allows a lower compression ratio (18.5:1 or 19.5:1 vs. 22:1 or 23:1 of the old model), which can reduce engine noise and vibration, thereby improving durability.
