FAW Trucks has once again consolidated its leading position in the South African commercial vehicle market, topping the list of best-selling truck brands in South Africa for four consecutive months from January to April 2025, demonstrating strong growth momentum and market dominance.
This achievement comes at a time when the overall automotive market in South Africa is presenting a complex situation of both hope and challenge. According to the latest data released by the South African Automobile Manufacturers Association (NAAMSA), sales of medium commercial vehicles (MCVs) reached 629 units in April 2025, an increase of 10.2% compared to the same period in 2024. However, the heavy truck and bus markets have experienced a decline, with a year-on-year decrease of 11.1%, from 1923 to 1710 vehicles, indicating that the logistics and infrastructure industries are facing certain pressures.
NAAMSA CEO Mikel Mabasa stated, "The automotive industry is once again at the forefront of global economic change. Despite local challenges and global uncertainty, we still see resilient growth momentum in certain segments of the market, particularly in the mid size commercial vehicle sector."

In this context, the performance of FAW South Africa trucks is particularly impressive, with monthly sales steadily increasing: 334 units in January, 414 units in February, 433 units in March, and 456 units in April, setting a new high for the year. The company attributes this growth to its long-term strategic vision and sustained market adaptability.
FAW South Africa stated in a statement, "We are proud to announce our strategic deployment for 2025, which will build upon the significant results achieved in 2024. Our sales performance from the beginning of the year to the present reflects our deep understanding of the transportation market in southern Africa and our continuous spirit of innovation."

According to industry forecasts, the South African truck market is expected to grow at a rate of 1.77% per year, and the market size is expected to reach 20330 vehicles by 2029. To meet the constantly changing market demand, FAW not only continues to launch new models, but also invests 200 million rand to expand its factory in Coega, planning to increase its annual production capacity from 5000 vehicles to 8000 vehicles.
In addition, the logistics industry in South Africa and the wider region is rapidly developing, with an expected overall market size of $137.4 billion by 2030, and a compound annual growth rate of 6.8%. Although the efficiency of railway and port infrastructure remains a pain point in the industry, FAW is helping customers overcome logistics bottlenecks and promote sustainable development by providing comprehensive transportation solutions.

In terms of channels, the performance of FAW dealers is equally impressive. The FAW Roodepoort showroom located in Rudepourt showcases a model of starting from scratch and rapid growth.
The head of the dealership, Lad le Roux, said in an interview with Dealerfloor, "We went from initially selling a small number of trucks per month to now achieving a stable retail performance of 15 to 20 vehicles per month. In September last year, we even set a sales record of 28 vehicles per month."
He pointed out that "truck sales are different from passenger cars. They require more investment and professionalism, and rely more on trust and long-term cooperation with customers." FAW has performed well in low maintenance costs, excellent fuel economy, and strong after-sales support, which are key factors in attracting customers. He added, "Our customer base ranges from small businesses to large logistics fleets. In this industry, building good relationships is the cornerstone of success."

In 2025, FAW Trucks will continue to deepen its development in the following directions in South Africa and the entire southern African market:
Launch new car models that better meet the demands of the African market
Continuously expand the coverage of the dealer network
Enhance after-sales service capability and customer satisfaction
Continuously promote technological innovation in commercial vehicle products
