In the first half of 2025, the cumulative sales of natural gas heavy-duty trucks reached 91,500 units, a year-on-year decrease of 16%, and a net reduction of 17,300 units compared with the first half of last year.
From the perspective of engines, what are the characteristics and changes of the natural gas heavy truck market in the first half of 2025? What is the current industry landscape in the field of gas heavy-duty truck engines?
The 12-13L models account for the largest proportion, while the proportion of models with over 600 horsepower is expanding month by month.
According to the terminal sales data (based on compulsory traffic insurance, excluding exports and military products) obtained by the First Commercial Vehicle Network, in June 2025, 13,500 units of natural gas heavy-duty truck engines were sold, a year-on-year decrease of 17%. From January to June this year, the cumulative sales of natural gas heavy-duty truck engines were 91,500 units, a year-on-year cumulative decrease of 16%.

In terms of displacement, from January to June 2025, the main displacement ranges of gas heavy-duty truck engines are 12-13L and 14-15L, accounting for 42.18% and 40.30% respectively. Large-displacement gas engines with a displacement of over 15L account for 3.64%. Compared with the same period last year, the proportion of large-displacement models over 15L in the gas heavy-duty truck engine market has increased, while the proportions of 12-13L and 14-15L engines have both decreased (as shown in the following chart).


By horsepower range, from January to June 2025, the main horsepower ranges of gas heavy-duty truck engines will be 400-500 horsepower and 500-600 horsepower, accounting for 37.12% and 45.67% respectively. The proportion of ultra-high horsepower (≥600 horsepower) models has also reached 14.67% (the proportion in the recent April to June months was 15.67%, 17.34% and 17.59% respectively). Compared with the same period last year, the proportion of ultra-high-horsepower models has increased by more than 12 percentage points, while the proportions of models in the 400-500 horsepower and 500-600 horsepower segments have both decreased (as shown in the following chart).


Weichai has achieved a six-year consecutive championship with a market share exceeding 50%, while Dongfeng Longqing's cumulative sales have soared by 207%.
In June 2025, 13,500 units of natural gas heavy-duty truck engines were sold, a year-on-year decrease of 17%, which was over 2,700 units less than that in June 2024.

In June 2025, five enterprises in the gas heavy-duty truck engine market sold over 1,000 units. Weichai sold 6,611 units and continued to hold the top spot on the monthly sales chart of gas heavy-duty truck engines with a significant advantage, maintaining a monthly share of 49.13%. This is the sixth consecutive month that Weichai has topped the monthly sales chart of gas heavy-duty truck engines in 2025. Cummins (Fukang + Dongkang) sold a total of 2,667 units, ranking second with a monthly share of 19.82%. Jiefang sold 1,601 units, ranking third, with a monthly share of 11.90%. Yuchai and Dongfeng Longqing ranked 4th and 5th on the monthly chart, selling 1,315 and 1,153 units respectively. Their monthly market shares were 9.77% and 8.57% respectively, while the market shares of other enterprises were all less than 1%.
From January to June 2025, the cumulative sales of gas heavy-duty truck engines reached 91,500 units, a year-on-year decrease of 16%. The decline in cumulative sales was on par with that after May and was approximately 17,300 units less than the cumulative sales in the same period last year.

As of June, only 8 enterprises have achieved sales in the gas heavy-duty truck engine market in 2025 (the actual number is 9, with Cummins' sales in the first six months coming from Foton Cummins and Dongfeng Cummins). The cumulative sales of these 8 enterprises from January to June this year have both increased and decreased (4 increased and 4 decreased). Yuchai, Dongfeng Longqing, Sinotruk and Valin saw year-on-year growth of 52%, 207%, 10% and 400% respectively. Among the declining enterprises, two have experienced a cumulative decline of double digits. The enterprise with the most severe decline saw its cumulative sales from January to June this year drop by 44% year-on-year.

In terms of cumulative market share, from January to June this year, three enterprises had a market share exceeding 10% in the natural gas heavy-duty truck engine market. Weichai, ranking first, had a market share of over 50%, reaching 51.85%. Cummins (Foton Cummins + Dongfeng Cummins) sold a total of 18,100 units, with a market share of 19.83%, an increase of 1.49 percentage points compared with the same period last year. From January to June, Jiefang's cumulative sales also exceeded 10,000 units, reaching 12,100 units, with a market share of 13.21%, an increase of 1.68 percentage points compared to the same period last year. Yuchai and Dongfeng Longqing ranked 4th and 5th respectively, with market shares of 7.23% and 6.79%. The market shares of the two enterprises increased by 3.22 percentage points and 4.93 percentage points respectively compared with the same period last year. The cumulative sales of other enterprises were all less than 1,000 units, and their market shares were all less than 1%.
