Cummins Peru has consolidated its position as one of the largest engine repair workshops in Latin America
Cummins Peru Distribution Company (a subsidiary of Komatsu Mitsui Group) has completed the expansion of its large Engine Maintenance Center (MRC) workshop in Callao, thereby enhancing its capacity to repair high-power engines and increasing its annual maintenance volume. In addition, the company has installed a state-of-the-art 6,400-horsepower dynamometer, which is the largest among all Cummins dealers in Peru and around the world, capable of precisely assessing engine performance.
This investment is approximately 2.5 million US dollars, including the construction of a new 1,600-square-meter factory, the installation of 12 workstations, and the expansion of space dedicated to professional technical processes. These improvement measures have made the handling of large components safer and more precise. This project also includes a construction area, a renovated spray booth, two 12-ton handling devices and a 22-ton bridge crane. These facilities help the large engines operate under the best conditions.
After modernization, the annual maintenance capacity of this repair workshop has been increased from 160 engines to 240, and the power range of the repairable equipment has also expanded from 3,500 horsepower of high-power engines such as QSK78 to 4,400 horsepower of QSK95 (the world's most powerful mining truck transportation engine). This expansion will reduce maintenance time by approximately 20% and enable the workshop to handle an annual increase of over 10% in the number of engines.
"The expansion of the workshop has strengthened the company's strategic direction. It enables us to provide more powerful support for our clients' operations, create an environment conducive to the development of technical personnel, and consolidate service products that keep pace with industry development. With this infrastructure, we are moving towards a more efficient and sustainable service model, focusing on establishing long-term cooperative relationships." Eric Ruiz, the general manager of Cummins Peru Distribution Company, said.
In 2024, Komatsu Mitsui Peru acquired La Joya in Arequipa, a service center and maintenance workshop of Komatsu Mining Company. The company plans to build more office Spaces in the Arequipa area, as it is home to its second-largest branch. The focus of these investments is on leasing a fleet, which currently has approximately 300 construction machines and is expected to grow by 6% to 7% this year.
