On March 18th, Dongfeng Motor and Cummins jointly celebrated the 40th anniversary of their cooperation in Wuhan. Both sides affectionately reviewed the fruitful results of their 40 years of close collaboration and signed a cooperation memorandum, marking a new stage in their global strategic partnership. In the future, the two sides will be committed to providing customers with more competitive commercial vehicle power solutions and jointly promoting high-quality development and sustainable transformation of the industry.
Yang Qing, Chairman and Party Secretary of Dongfeng Motor Corporation, and Feng Changjun, General Manager and Deputy Party Secretary, along with Wang Jun, a member of the Party Committee and Vice General Manager, were present at the event. Also in attendance were Jennifer Rumsey, Chairman and CEO of Cummins, Nathan Stoner, Vice President of Cummins and Chairman of Cummins China, Wang Kaijun, Vice President of Cummins and General Manager of Cummins China Engine Business Unit, and Steve Saxby, Vice President of Cummins and Chief Technology Officer of Cummins China. Relevant leaders from both sides and the joint venture witnessed this significant historical moment together.
Yang Qing stated that the cooperation journey between Dongfeng Motor and Cummins has been a mutually beneficial process. The advanced power technology and reliable quality of Cummins have been perfectly matched with Dongfeng Motor's excellent products, winning wide favor from end customers. Facing the in-depth advancement of energy transformation and the dual carbon strategy, both sides should deepen cooperation with a more open and close attitude, intensify technical cooperation in key areas such as fuel-saving technology, multi-energy paths, and emissions, jointly create more competitive vehicle and engine products, deepen complementary advantages and strategic synergy, work together to enhance the operational efficiency of the entire industrial chain, elevate the strategic cooperation to a new height, and achieve a common leap in competitiveness.
Rong Zhanning stated that over the past four decades, Cummins and Dongfeng Motor have trusted and relied on each other, worked closely together, and achieved fruitful cooperation results in key areas such as intelligent manufacturing, technological innovation, and energy transformation, continuously creating value for customers and society. Looking to the future, we hope to further deepen our cooperation with Dongfeng Motor in key domestic and international markets, jointly promote the transformation and upgrading of commercial vehicle power, and achieve greater breakthroughs in the global market.
In light of the current industrial development trends and with a long-term perspective on the global market, Dongfeng and Cummins signed a cooperation memorandum, clarifying the core directions of future cooperation. Both sides will focus on three key areas: the "Genesis" Truck 3.0 project, the development of National VII products and vehicle matching, and the expansion of overseas markets. They will systematically promote the full value chain collaboration from R&D, supply chain, manufacturing to market, channels and services, explore new paths for the deep integration of technology and industry, and jointly drive the commercial vehicle industry towards a higher quality and more sustainable development path.
It is known that Dongfeng's cooperation with Cummins began in 1986. From the licensing production of B series engines to the establishment of Dongfeng 8P diesel engines as an industry classic, the two sides took the first step in technology introduction. In 1994, Shanghai Fleetguard was established, and in 1996, Dongfeng Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. was formed, marking the transition of their cooperation from technology introduction to joint venture construction and collaborative development. Since then, with the operation of the East Asia R&D Center and the successive launch of joint venture projects for emission treatment systems, the two sides have completed multiple rounds of technological iterations from National II to National VI standards, and their application fields have expanded from road transportation to non-road markets, continuously enhancing their capabilities in providing whole vehicle powertrain solutions. In recent years, the completion and commissioning of Dongfeng Cummins' intelligent production line, the production of the 4 millionth engine, and the successive launch of multi-fuel engine new products have further deepened their cooperation, laying a solid foundation for this global strategic upgrade.
Looking to the future:
Genesis Truck 3.0 Cooperation Project:
Based on the successful cooperation between Dongfeng Motor and Cummins in the first and second phases of the Genesis Truck project, the project focuses on cutting-edge power technologies, promoting the research and development of key technologies such as hybrid power, hydrogen internal combustion engines, and the entire vehicle powertrain. It actively explores efficient, low-carbon, and zero-carbon power paths, and drives the industry to continuously achieve new breakthroughs in related technology fields.
National VII product development and vehicle matching:
In response to the upcoming more stringent National VII emission regulations, Dongfeng Motor and Cummins will deepen their collaboration, leveraging their combined technical, R&D and application resources to advance the development of National VII products and vehicle matching, and strengthen the vehicle powertrain capabilities.
Overseas market expansion:
Based on the global business layout, leverage Cummins' advantages in diversified product offerings and service resources in overseas markets, explore innovative collaborative models in key overseas markets, and better support the diverse needs of global customers.
