On June 1st, during the Posidonia International Shipping Exhibition in Greece, the Huadong Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., under the China State Shipbuilding Corporation, jointly with the China Shipbuilding Industry Trading Co., Ltd., signed a construction contract for 12 ultra-large crude carriers (VLCCs) with the Greek company Dynacom. The total contract amount, converted into RMB, is over 10 billion yuan, and part of the payment will be made in RMB. This signing is a repeat collaboration between Huadong Zhonghua and the Greek ship magnate Procopiou family after they jointly delivered two floating storage and regasification units (FSRU) in 2021. It continues to write a new chapter for HuDong Zhonghua in the field of oil tanker construction and fully demonstrates the brand appeal of HuDong Zhonghua as a global leading shipbuilding enterprise.
The 12 VLCCs signed this time adopt the new-generation 307,000 tons VLCC design scheme developed by the 708th Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation. According to the general standards of VLCCs, this type of ship integrates the latest advanced technologies and design specifications. It adopts an excellent hull shape that meets the requirements of the shipowner's terminal, combines the application of efficient propellers and energy-saving devices, and can achieve industry-leading fuel economy; it adopts an innovative structural design, achieving lightweight construction while also ensuring the convenience of construction; it is equipped with WinGD engines, a scrubber tower, and a high-pressure selective catalytic reduction (SCR) device to meet the latest international maritime organization (IMO) environmental emission requirements; it uses a mature and reliable cargo oil pump system design, adds a heating system to the cargo tanks, and can meet the personalized needs of the shipowner.
It is said that the first ship of this project is planned to start construction in October 2027.
