The transmission, also known as the gearbox, is a mechanism used to change the speed and torque from the engine. It can fix or shift gears to change the transmission ratio between the output shaft and the input shaft. The transmission is composed of the transmission mechanism and the control mechanism. Some cars also have a power output mechanism. The transmission mechanism mostly uses ordinary gear transmission, and some use planetary gear transmission. (1) Alter the transmission ratio to meet the requirements of different driving conditions for traction force, allowing the engine to operate under favorable conditions as much as possible and meeting the possible speed requirements. It can change the vehicle's driving speed and the torque on the driving wheels within a wide range. Due to the varying driving conditions, the vehicle's driving speed and driving torque need to change within a large range. For instance, on highways, the speed should reach 100 km/h, while in urban areas, the speed is usually around 50 km/h. When an empty vehicle travels on a straight road, the driving resistance is small, but when fully loaded and climbing a slope, the driving resistance is much greater. However, the characteristics of a car engine are that the rotational speed range is relatively small, and the torque range cannot meet the actual road conditions.
(2) Enable reverse driving to meet the need for the vehicle to move backward. For vehicles that can reverse, the engine crankshaft usually rotates in only one direction. However, sometimes the vehicle needs to move backward, so a reverse gear is often set in the transmission to enable reverse driving.
(3) Interrupt power transmission. When the engine starts, idles, shifts gears, or needs to stop for power output, the power transmission to the driving wheels is interrupted.
(4) Provide neutral gear. When the clutch is engaged, the transmission can not output power. For example, it ensures that the driver can release the clutch pedal and leave the driver's seat without the engine stalling. Principle
