Due to its relatively outstanding economic efficiency, natural gas has become the preferred choice for a large number of users when purchasing or replacing vehicles in recent years, especially in the field of long-distance logistics. The high frequency of trips and long mileage have maximized the cost advantage of natural gas vehicles.
These long-distance logistics users pay more attention to the efficiency of vehicle operation. Therefore, when choosing a vehicle, they often tend to prefer models with high horsepower and large displacement. There are not many such options available, among which there are only three brands: Wuxi, Jiefang Power, and Cummins (which was recently announced). If you are going to make a choice, it will basically be these three brands' models.
Jiefang Power: Aowei CA6SX1 Engine / 660 HP
Let's start with the 16L gas engine that first caught the public's attention. It comes from Liberation Power's Aowei CA6SX1 engine, with a displacement of 15.56L, capable of delivering a maximum horsepower of 660 and a maximum torque of 3000 Nm. It can be output at 900-1200 rpm.
This engine boasts high thermal efficiency. It adopts high compression ratio rapid combustion technology, Miller cycle, intelligent control of air intake, low friction and intelligent thermal management technology. It can achieve a fuel consumption of over 1 kg less per 100 kilometers in efficient logistics scenarios compared to competitors. It can save over 2,000 kg of gas annually for users.
Secondly, in terms of reliability, it continues to maintain the consistent advantages of the Jiefang Power model. All core components are specially designed for gas engines. It is the first to have a 5-stage corrugated connection high-temperature exhaust pipe. It features precise expansion connecting rods, laser-welded steel pistons, TOP-DOWN water flow double-layer water jacket cylinder heads, etc. The B10 lifespan exceeds 2 million kilometers, ensuring a long service life.
What's more, this model also features intelligent upgrades. In the future, it can better integrate into the Liberation power domain and work intelligently with the AMT transmission, rear axle, etc., to enhance the efficiency of the power chain while reducing fuel consumption.
Currently, this model is mainly equipped on vehicles such as the FAW Jiefang J7, J6V, Qingdao Jiefang EAGLE, and the new JH6, which are basically high-end heavy truck models of the Liberation series.
Weichai Power: WP16NG4.0 Gasoline Engine / 750 horsepower
On February 25, 2025, Weichai's new generation WP16NG4.0 gas engine was officially launched, bringing a powerful member to Weichai's gas engine lineup.

The all-new WP16NG4.0 gas-powered engine features superior performance such as greater power, better fuel efficiency, higher efficiency, greater reliability, and greater comfort. It is specifically designed to address issues such as steep slopes, heavy cargo transportation, and strict time requirements in regions like Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, and Chongqing. The more complex the terrain, the more pronounced its advantages become.
This model was born on the latest generation of gas-powered technology platform of Weichai. It is the current highest representative of Weichai's gas engine technology, focusing more on the ultimate efficiency of the entire machine. It can meet users' ultimate demands for cost reduction and efficiency improvement, while its performance has also been simultaneously enhanced. The scene adaptability has been completely revolutionized. It can be said to be a fully evolved model.
In terms of data, the engine of Weichai WP16NG4.0 has a displacement of 15.7L, with a maximum output of 750 horsepower and a maximum torque of 3400 Newton-meters. It can output power within a wide speed range of 800-1350 rpm, which can better meet the requirements of mountainous and plateau working conditions. Moreover, thanks to its high thermal efficiency and assembly energy-saving technology, the vehicle's air consumption in mountainous conditions is reduced by 6%, and the B10 lifespan reaches 1.8 million kilometers.
The Weichai WP16NG4.0 is expected to be installed on some high-end heavy trucks of Sinotruk and Shaanxi Auto.
Cummins: A16NNS6B 700/700 horsepower
The last one is the Cummins 16L gas engine that recently appeared in the announcement. Its model number is A16NNS6B700, with a displacement of 16.01L. The horsepower range covers 580, 630, 660, 680, and 700 horsepower. The torque parameters are expected to be similar to those of the above two models. It will mainly be installed in the related traction vehicles of BAIC Foton in the future. Since this model only appeared in the vehicle announcement, other information is temporarily unavailable. You can look forward to the subsequent release of the 16L gas engine of Foton Cummins.

At this point, the 16L gas engine product has gathered several major power manufacturers such as Jiefang Power, Weichai Power, and Cummins. In the future, there will be a new round of competition in this field. Judging from the data, the model of Weichai Power has the most powerful power output. However, in current traction vehicles, a large horsepower is only one aspect. For users, aspects such as energy consumption, durability, and reliability are what they are more concerned about. If you were in this situation, how would you choose the 16L gas engine?
