Cummins Facilitated The Launch Of Great Wall Hybrid Heavy-duty Trucks, Initiating A New Revolution in Long-haul Logistics

Jul 06, 2025

On June 25th, the launch event of Great Wall Heavy trucks was held in Baoding. Several models of Great Wall G-series heavy trucks equipped with Cummins hybrid engines were officially unveiled, attracting widespread attention from the industry with their strong capabilities and bringing a brand-new solution to long-haul logistics. This is another milestone for both sides following the hybrid strategic cooperation reached in March this year.

The newly launched Great Wall Hybrid heavy truck G1050 is equipped with the Cummins X13 Hybrid engine, as well as Great Wall Commercial Vehicles' fully self-developed chip power brain and dual-motor DHT hybrid-specific transmission. It not only delivers a powerful 1050 horsepower but also achieves a direct reduction of 15% to 25% in fuel consumption, truly realizing more powerful performance and lower fuel consumption. Effectively reduces the cost of trunk logistics transportation and interprets the product core of "saving more than just a little". In addition, the G970 model, equipped with the Cummins M10 Hybrid engine and designed for general cargo flow on trunk lines and high-timeliness express delivery scenarios, is about to be launched, further meeting the diverse and multi-scenario logistics demands.

Hybrid vehicles will be an indispensable force in the tractor market in the coming years. Under the guidance of its zero-carbon goal strategy, Cummins actively promotes the development of multi-energy power solutions, collaborates with domestic automakers including Great Wall Motor, and accelerates the research and development of low-carbon and zero-carbon technologies such as hybrid products, providing end users with more power options.

The engines of Cummins X13 Hybrid and M10 Hybrid adopt fully decoupled intelligent control technology, achieving a breakthrough balance between fuel economy and performance.

Application of full-decoupling technology

The engine fan can operate independently when the machine is off. The electronic air compressor provides efficient air supply. The by-wire steering is light and precise, eliminating the need for traditional generators and starters. The P2/P2.5 motor of the entire vehicle has transformed into an all-round assistant, not only driving the vehicle but also charging the battery and undertaking the starting task. As a result, the efficiency of the overall engine accessory system has significantly increased and energy consumption has sharply declined.

Intelligent system application

Intelligent start-stop eliminates idle waste (as low as 550 RPM).

When starting or at low speed, the motor takes over to shield the low-efficiency areas of the engine.

When climbing slopes or accelerating sharply, the motor provides assistance, rejecting the high-load oil-consuming.

Stable cruise control locks onto the high-efficiency range (ultra-wide coverage from 950 to 1550 RPM).

When braking or coasting, the dual motors achieve efficient energy recovery, and the engine automatically shuts off with zero consumption.

Great Wall Commercial Vehicles and Cummins, in collaboration with end users, have conducted extensive tests and optimizations in the early stage to provide customers with high-performance hybrid power solutions, which have received very positive feedback from participating customers.

Initially, from Shanghai to Linyi, the load was 24 to 32 tons and the fuel consumption was as high as 28 liters per 100 kilometers. But Great Wall Motors and Cummins engineers have been with us, iterating over 100 versions of the software. Now, the fuel consumption is firmly maintained at 20 liters per 100 kilometers.
