As early as the 1990s, Jichai Power had expanded the application fields of its engine products to the marine power sector, achieving breakthroughs in both naval vessels and the civilian fishing boat market. Over the past 30 years, the Jichai Power brand has been highly recognized by marine engine users. As a "leading enterprise" in China's gas engine industry, in 1988, Jichai Power successfully developed the first large-power natural gas engine in China, thus opening the door to the gas power sector. As of the fourth quarter of 2025, the company's product market share in various gas power generation markets such as natural gas, gas, and biogas in China exceeded 30%, with a total installed capacity of over 1100 megawatts, and an annual reduction of 5 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

After thorough research and development efforts, in October 2024, the enterprise officially launched the S8200 engine for the 130-meter standard ship type in the Yangtze River Basin.

To achieve high-quality supply, Jichai Power has fully committed from the research and development stage, adopting intelligent electronic control, high-energy spark plugs for ignition, valve pre-timing injection and a number of patented technologies. It also integrates an intelligent system cloud data monitoring platform and optimizes product design by simulating various ship operation conditions. They held the meeting in Wuhan and actively responded to the requirements of equipment renewal actions, providing solutions including ship construction financing, key equipment supply, LNG refueling, etc. for related fields, and offering platform support in terms of equipment services, energy guarantee, and financial support for customers.
As of October 2025, in the Chongqing area, Jichai Power has provided more than 50 S8200 engines to several major shipping companies in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River; in the Hubei area, it has further strengthened cooperation with relevant shipping companies and successfully signed and delivered various types of marine natural gas engines.
Focus on key projects to promote the demonstration effect
On September 29, 2025, the "Shungang Changjie" bulk and distribution dual-purpose vessel, equipped with the S8200ZLCT-1 type marine natural gas engine independently developed by Jichai Power, completed its"Ji Shui operation" in the Jiangsu Guan River waters. This helped to take a crucial step in the research and application of green power vessels for inland waterway transportation in China.
This vessel was invested and constructed by Anhui Shungang Shipping Co., Ltd. It has a carrying capacity of 10,039 tons and is currently a leading dual-purpose vessel in the inland waterway shipping industry in terms of technology. The vessel relies on the "fully LNG fuel" power system and does not require diesel assistance during navigation, thereby reducing carbon emissions and pollutant emissions at the source.
As one of the benchmark projects for the S8200 engine, the enterprise attached great importance to it and made full efforts, achieving a one-time success from the startup test to the ship trial voyage. It received unanimous praise from users and laid a solid foundation for further market expansion and model development.
In the Yangtze River Basin, Jichai Power fully utilized the integrated solution for LNG-powered ships in the petroleum industry chain to create a typical benchmark for industrial linkage.
The client of this project is a key enterprise in the Yangtze River shipping industry. They plan to invest in building 6 120-meter LNG-powered ships. However, the funding gap has become the core bottleneck for the cooperation to proceed. Jichai Power, based on a thorough assessment of the client's qualifications, innovatively proposed a solution of "LNG power package + customized financing product". It jointly provided financing and overall product services with the financial enterprises within the group, solving the "immediate urgent need" for the client.
The successful exploration and practice of this project have broken the traditional mindset of "merely selling products". Through the deep integration of "products and finance", it not only solved the capital bottleneck of customers and promoted the realization of the project, but also fully integrated the group's resources and achieved efficient linkage of industry and finance, providing a replicable marketing sample for the green ship power market in the Yangtze River Basin and across the country.
